Expressions

French spoken in Burkina has some tasty expressions. I tried to note some of that here with their meaning. See also the website Ouaga Move .

Atmosphere: have the ambience.
Example: "event organized by the children was well ambiancée last night."

Good finish: welcome. See my message
about it.

Cailler: get hot.
Example: "It was not until 10 o'clock in the morning, and it already quail evil evil evil."
Paradoxically, also means "get cold". In conclusion, only the context captures the meaning :-)

Chinoiserie: Chinese product.
Generally poor quality but offered at an unbeatable price. See my message about it.

Ask the Road: take leave.
As a courtesy, before leaving a person who invited us (to be discussed in a drink), he "calls the road". This does not in general, it's just an expression: "It's getting late, we will ask you for the road."

It's been two days: it's been .
Example: "Hey Blaise! It's been two days [we did not see] how are you?"

Spoil: damaging.
Example: "Fadil has spoiled the camera Franck.

GB: daughter.
Example: "Did you see the go there?"

Tar : paved road or street.
Example: "to go Mahamadi from cyber, you have to cross the tarmac and then take the third 6-meter line.

Drops: raining slightly.
They say "it rains" when there is a real rainstorm, virulent. Otherwise, they say "drop it".

Maquis: bar / brasserie.
Ouaga full of these establishments cheap popular Burkinabe.

Or: is not it.
Example: "To be attractive, a girl must have a good weight. Or Frank?"

Chicken bicycle / chicken television [or TV]: grilled chicken / chicken on a spit.
"Bicycle" because chickens run free here in the courtyards and streets, and so have the thighs of cyclists. "Television" as the oven in which the chicken turns like a television.

Product: drug.
Example: "You have a headache and body aches? Maybe malaria, take the products."

Sap sap: quickly.
Example: "I have 18 hours training, I have to get sap sap.

Six meters: block.
Example: "killer with an ax has been strangely murdered one person in each of the six-meter area.

Candy: non-alcoholic sweet drink.
The sweets we are meeting in Ouagadougou Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and Tonic.

aunt woman at least thirty years (affectionate term).
Example: (his neighbor) "Hello Auntie!" Ca va? "
Many stores are called eg "Aunt X. Just

: means, not top.
Example: "How are you?" "It's going a bit." Generally the other answers, so something like: "Oh well then" => Burkina, it does not complain, and when something is really wrong, that his friends talking about, not that which we demand.
