Start my mission
Hello everyone!
Here is a first live message from Ouagadougou. In fact I have written (on paper) this morning during a period of idleness this morning, cutting electricity required. Power cuts are frequent in Ouagadougou (several per day), and sometimes last several hours, as this morning. Suffice to say that it makes my training mission computer!
I arrived Saturday night and I was warmly greeted by several members of ACP. I hosted the first 15 days in Mahamadi, president of the association, and then I'll be staying with another member of the association named Thomas. Everybody is extraordinarily considerate with me, beyond the known hospitality of Burkina Faso, my luck is that Mahamadi and Thomas spent 15 days in France last spring, invited by an association named Toulouse Dunes leeward which ACP is a partner (it is this association that gave them the hardware they have) and has extremely good care of them. They want to give back to the French crossing :-)
Team ACP showed me his actions and his cyber [no coffee] Sunday, but I'm really back in the thick of the action yesterday, Monday, with the onset of computer training. And as expected, we had to adapt to the unexpected :-) I had prepared on my USB all the documents I needed, but the computers are infested cyber virus, which erased everything to me. So I spent the morning re-downloads of these papers (I had the presence of mind to put on a website ...), at dizzying speed 4 kb / s, and install OpenOffice on the machines. The first webcam was also installed, the others will be later, when the CPA has found a safe place for storage because there are apparently frequent flights in such places (even flying mouse! And not in weightlessness with CNES! [private joke for members of EVASION]). We finally decided to make a radical cleaning machines by formatting and reinstalling Windows (XP), but suddenly it took then reinstall OpenOffice ... The afternoon was held (with an hour late,
due to power failure ...) an introduction to computers for neighborhood residents, organized by ACP, in which 5 people (young: 15 to 25 years) were enrolled. In two hours it was really Basics: Exploring the Windows environment and keyboarding (final exercise: a small copy in Word text provided on paper - have at least 5 minutes per line ...). To some people who wanted to immediately extend the training and learning new things, Mahamadi said he should have practiced before going further, with which I agree completely. Following the formation therefore takes place in 3 days, with an introduction to Word. Meanwhile, these people can return to cyber when they wish to exercise. The training lasts a full ten hours, and also includes an introduction to Excel and Internet navigation. Tonight, another group of 4 people (young adults) follows this course.
soon in my next post I'll give you my first impressions of life in Burkina Faso, because I'm really immersed myself and we met a lot of people (who is home during their lives!). I will return later on my contribution to the training site: I have already convinced Mahamadi to abandon Microsoft Office and switch to OpenOffice
:-) PS: no pictures, too long to load!
